The State House Restaurant

A celebration of Ohio flavour, seasonal ingredients, and warm hospitality in the heart of downtown Columbus.

Rooted in Ohio

Ohio flavour, served downtown.

The State House was born from a simple idea: downtown Columbus deserves a restaurant that feels unmistakably Ohio.

We celebrate the ingredients, growers, traditions, and communities that make this state special, bringing them together through seasonal food and thoughtful hospitality inside the historic Bonnier Building.

It’s a place designed to feel rooted in its surroundings while still offering something fresh, polished, and distinctly its own.

From Farm to Table

Freshness starts close to home.

Our kitchen draws inspiration from Ohio’s farms, producers, and seasons. Ingredients are chosen for quality and character, allowing the food to reflect what is growing, thriving, and tasting its best right now.

Local ingredients: We look close to home first, working with regional farms and producers whenever possible.

Seasonal cooking: Menus evolve with the seasons rather than forcing ingredients to fit a calendar.

Ohio inspiration: Familiar Midwestern flavours meet a thoughtful, contemporary approach.

Familiar, thoughtful, and a little unexpected.

The State House is designed to feel polished without feeling precious. Come for a relaxed meal, gather around the table with friends, or celebrate something worth raising a glass to.

Our kitchen transforms Ohio’s seasonal bounty into refined yet approachable plates, from herb-garden gnocchi at lunch to apple-wood pork with honey glaze at dinner, all served with full-service warmth and paced precisely for a downtown schedule.

Community

We turn city pride into action by partnering with State Street Pride, sourcing from neighbourhood farms, and supporting local food-education programs, making every meal at The State House part of a stronger, more vibrant Columbus.

Tora  Bonnier

Fresh‑Food Visionary & Proud Ohio Ambassador

Tora Bonnier is the spark behind The State House and the wider revival of the Bonnier Building at 11 W. State Street. Where the long‑loved Ho‑Toy once stood, she envisions a fresh culinary hub that marries Ohio storytelling with modern downtown energy. Her “city‑center farm” approach puts harvests and partner‑farm produce straight onto the menu, proving hearty Buckeye flavors can be both local and accessible. In Tora’s hands, affordable, ingredient‑driven cooking becomes the heartbeat of a revitalized Capitol Square.

Off the line, Tora’s palate leans toward regional wines and craft beverages, curating lists that spotlight Ohio vineyards alongside like‑minded producers beyond state lines. Her commitment to community is just as robust: The State House’s outreach plan elevates Columbus Pride and other local festivals, and Tora is a regular presence at State Street Pride events to ensure the hospitality felt inside the dining room resonates across the city.
